I am a bit of a history buff. I like historical things and I suppose that’s good since I’m rapidly becoming one of those historical things myself. I’ll never forget the two trips that I’ve made to Prague in the Czech Republic. If you ever get the chance to visit Prague, do it. The old town of Prague is incredible. It escaped the bombing raids of World War II, so all of the old architecture remains. On both visits, we stayed with Pavel and Klara. Pavel is part of a radio ministry (HCJB Radio) in Prague that you can check out [HERE]. He grew up in Prague and was a great tour guide of the old city. He took us to his childhood home and told the story of waking up to noise outside his window one morning as a young man in 1968. There were no visible storm clouds looming on the horizon and there were no indications that the plan would be postponed, let alone aborted altogether. The winds were calm and the course had been charted and mapped out. Decisions were being made on the assumption that our plans for the future were moving along as envisioned.
But then it happened; God intervened as only he can do and everything changed. Everything. As a result, I was recently reminded of James’ words concerning our meager plans:

For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (James 4:13-17)
James is a much needed reminder that in life’s great adventure, God is its grand architect and he gets the final word and all the glory. To deny that is sinful arrogance. But it isn’t as though God is a Galactic Ogre waiting to squash our Read more…
